Henderson’s Parks and Reserves

The Central Park Henderson district has many parks and reserves for you to enjoy. A stroll through one of these parks will allow you to enjoy short bush walks, beautiful streams and spot some native wildlife right in the heart of the West.

Te Pai Park

Te Pai Park has open grass spaces and lots of mature trees to provide shade, it features a playground, skate park, public toilets, picnic tables and seating. Access the main car park from Te Pai Place and Clemway Place. Pedestrians can also access from Lincoln Road. The car park gates are open Monday to Friday, 9am-9pm, Saturday and Sunday, 7am-9pm.

Epping Plant Reserve

Epping Plant Reserve has a walking trail which runs between Epping Road and Central Park Drive. It takes you past mature trees and the Waikumete stream. There are a few carparks at the end of Epping Road.

Central Park

Central Park has open grass spaces, it also features a playground, the Chris Timms memorial jetty and walks around the main sports tracks and stadium. Many sports clubs are based from here, making it a hub of activity on most days. There are a number of carparks for the area and all are accessible via Central Park Drive.

Epping Esplanade

Epping Esplanade is a nice little area in the middle of one of our residential areas. It has ample space for a picnic and a play. The Park has a playground there to enjoy as well. Entry to the park is via Buscomb Avenue.

Cranwell Park

Cranwell Park can be found right next door to the West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre, the Henderson Bowling Club and the Henderson Croquet Club. Originally the Park was part of Thomas Henderson’s farm and developed into an orchard in 1900 by Ben Cranwell. Today you can picnic and play under historic pear trees. It features picnic table, seating and even a memorial for Elvis fans. Enjoy a stroll around the perimeter of the park or try the Henderson Creek walkway, which takes you past the Mill Cottage. Access to the park is via Alderman Drive. Pedestrian access is also from Millstream Drive, Falls Park or through Tui Glen Reserve.

Woodford Reserve

Woodford Reserve has open grass spaces, allowing space for picnics and exercise. The perfect location to bring a ball and run around outside with the kids.  The reserve is easily accessible via Waipareira Avenue.

Falls Park

Falls Park is located next door to The Falls Bistro, this park features seating, a rotunda (frequently used for a wedding venue in summer) and the artistic McLeod’s Crossing which connects this tranquil park to the Henderson Creek Walkway. Access to the park is via Alderman Drive.

Rotary Park

Rotary Park is located right of Great North Road, this walkway takes you to Mt Lebanon Lane. From there you are connected with the larger Henderson Park as well as explore the Corban Estate and Pacifica Arts Centres, there are beautiful arts on display here including street arts and statues.

Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park has many mature deciduous trees, making the place look stunning throughout the seasons. Adjacent to the park is a lovely statue “The Pioneer Winemaker” which is a lovely tribute to the winemaker families of the West. Pedestrian access to the park is via Alderman Drive.

Opanuku Reserve

Opanuku Reserve has lots of open green space for recreational activity or relaxing with a picnic. You can also walk through to the larger adjoining Henderson Park which boosts a network of paths. From here you can follow the 6km Opanuku Path or the 8km Opanuku Stream Path. It features a playground and seating. Access to the Reserve is via Henderson Valley Road. Pedestrians can also access through Henderson Park.

Henderson Park

Henderson Park boasts many large open spaces perfect for all sorts of recreational activities. Walkways take you through lush native bush, the kowhai flower here around October which brings many native birds to the area. It features seating, picnic areas, sports fields, playground and public toilets. Access the car park from Wilsher Crescent. Pedestrians can also access from Mt Lebanon Lane over a stunning bridge.

Catherine Esplanade Reserve

Catherine Esplanade Reserve is a short walkway which connects you between Pioneer Street and Vitasovich Avenue over the Waikumete Stream.  It allows for easy pedestrian access between the shops on either side of the stream.

Hart Domain

Hart Domain offers open green spaces with a playground and lizard statue. Right next door to the Boundary shopping centre, this will be a good way for kids to end the shopping day. It features a picnic table and seating. Access is via Vitasovich Avenue.
